Oh hey. My dad has swine flu.

No, no, that's cool.

I didn't wake up feeling flu-ish and sick this morning, either.

Nope, nuh-uh, no sir.

I wish I could find a way to make money with a blog.

Does anyone want to give me monies?

I'll write things, I swear.

Maybe.

I just realized I have a crapload of Livejournal friends.

FRANDS!!1

Okay, so maybe it's not exciting or that huge a number for most of you, but dammit, it is for me!

Anyways, I'm waiting for my iPod to charge so I can go on my walk. I love walking. I walk 5km every day, and I'm always tempted to walk for longer than that... but I never do. Why? No idea! Maybe I'm afraid that I'll walk an extra km away from home and suddenly realize that I'm fatigued beyond reason but that I'm way too far from home, so then I have to crawl home on my hands and knees; except halfway there my knees give out so I'm literally just dragging my torso agonizingly behind me down the sidewalk.

Or maybe I just don't like change.

At any rate, I've booked my tickets to California. Which... woo! I'm sure I'll be more excited when the time comes and I'm there all safe and sound. However, it's my first flight alone, AND I have a 2 hour, 45 minute layover in Newark, New Jersey (excitement capitol of the world!!), so that's stressing me out a bit. I really don't want to lose my luggage, yo. Or miss my flight. Or have my flight delayed for forever.

I stress about things WAAAAY too easily, I think.

Star Trek... wow.

So, I'm not sure how many Trekkies I have on my flist... I'm only sure of one, and she's a Star Trek elitist who may or may not listen to what I say. ;) Gurl, listen up.

It was amazing. Despite my enthusiasm I went in with a healthy dose of cynicism - and cried within the first few minutes (and then several other times throughout the movie). I don't want to give a whole lot away, so let me see if I can find a way to describe it adequately without spoiling everything.

There were things I took issue with, obviously... the Trek community frowns in the face of change. However, just because I take issue with the change does not mean it will not ultimately be a good thing; indeed, a very good thing. There were things, specifically romantic... trysts, that took me off guard; however, I was able to adjust myself, even warm, to the idea.

Ultimately, this movie managed to do the most important thing, the thing that I would consider "make or break" in terms of its acceptance in the Trek community and in the eyes of the everyday movie-goer. It sacrificed non of its vim, valor, or action-packed "kitschiness" that the OS is full of - while simultaneously rocketing it into the 21st Century. In my mind, this is as firmly a part of Trek as Captain Picard, Starfleet, and Klingons... while being, at the same time, unique and its own original creation.

This is what Star Trek: OS would have been had it originated in 2009. I will gladly see each and every movie with this cast of characters.

EDIT: And I gotta say... when Old Spock met New... I cried again.

Ugh. Yeah, I know. It's just... everytime that I sit down to post, I remember that NaNo is REALLY close and... I just can't bring myself to put fingers to keyboard just yet. Maybe I'm saving my fingers for November.

At any rate, just to let you know I haven't forgotten you, here's a little bit 'o' linkage:

Cake Wrecks - I don't know what's more funny, here... the fact that these are actually "professional" cakes gone wrong, or the snarky, awesomely hilarious commentary that goes with each picture.

Passive-Agressive Notes - I find this hilarious because I am ALWAYS leaving passive-agressive notes for people to read. Especially at work.

Enjoy, y'all. And don't worry, come November I'll be back. If even briefly every day to update everyone on the status of my novel word-count.

So, it was quite chilly, I was feeling sick, and I thought the best thing for me would be a crackling, warm, wonderful fire. I figured I'd give it a go!

I mean, I was always great at making fires in our firepit in the country. I know all the rules... the wood can't be green, it's gotta be seasoned, you can't use to much paper or it'll burn fast and high but nothing will light, don't stack in such a way that it could collapse and smother the flames, blah-bitty-blah-blah. I thought I had it handled like a pro.

Well, a dead fire, sooty hair, and two smoke filled lungs later, it became clear to me that I just didn't know the mechanics of indoor fires.

Ah well. My dad fixed it and had it roaring in no time. But if my brother asks, I totally made it. This is my pride we're talking about, people.

Oh, and on a bit of a side note, I've decided (after a week of feeling incredibly unwell and ill) that I don't have enough vegetables in my diet at ALL.

My biggest problem is that I don't like most vegetables, and I think this is honestly going to have to be a matter of me sucking it up and eating them anyways. I've figured out rather ingenious ways at sneaking in some veggies - sprouts, lettuce, and tomatoes on my sandwiches (anyone who knows me knows that the whole veggies on sandwiches thing ain't gonna be easy); squash (I really love it with maple syrup and then grilled, YUM); blackened grilled zucchini; homemade veggie soup (I make a good one); and so on and so forth.

I just have to make sure I get variety, or else I'll get bored. Really bored.

At any rate, I need to commit to having my serving of veggies every single day. So, my flisters and Facebookers alike, you gotta hold me accountable. I'll be sure to include what veggies I had that day in my daily posts (and Twitter), make sure I stick to it!

(And if you have any delicious veggie recipies, be sure to share!)

Y'know, call me old fashioned, but I think it's generally only proper to INFORM students that you'll be canceling a class... especially when it's at 8:00 in the morning and is the only class we have all day, and when there are people driving over an hour to get here.

And don't pretend that it was "just canceled" because you're sick or something. You're leaving for China, it was your last freaking class. We KNOW that you hate us as much as we hate you, so don't think that we don't know it was anything other than revenge, especially considering the fact that you made sure that we all knew how "important" it was to come to this class.

Maybe you're bitter because so very few people showed up on a normal Wednesday morning. Well, honey, if you don't teach anything of relevence, blabber at us for an hour or so, and then dismiss us 30-45 minutes early, we're not really gonna want to drag ourselves out of bed in the morning for you, are we?

What a ridiculous, awful teacher she was. Good riddance, ma'am.

I'll make a real post later today.
